In August, our Uniforms team attended the Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA) Congress in Adelaide — Australasia’s premier event for the ambulance health sector. Bringing together leaders and professionals from across Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and beyond, the Congress is a vital forum to collaborate, share knowledge and celebrate innovation across the sector.

As part of our involvement, Workwear Group Uniforms exhibited at the Expo — highlighting our latest uniform innovations — and proudly sponsored the CAA Awards for Excellence for the second year in a row. Supporting the Congress in this way reflects our ongoing commitment to the ambulance and emergency services we partner with — including Ambulance Victoria, Ambulance Tasmania, St John NT, SA Ambulance Service, ACT Emergency Service and St John WA.

The CAA Congress plays an important role in shaping the future of ambulance healthcare. Member services contribute their collective knowledge and expertise, creating a strong foundation for improvement, evidence-based initiatives and innovation across the sector. Through this collaboration, the CAA advocates on behalf of its members in key areas, ensuring ambulance services remain at the forefront of paramedicine and patient-centred care.



Established in 1962, the Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA) is the peak body for the sector. Its Board brings together CEOs and Commissioners from each member service, working with healthcare professionals and researchers to advance community outcomes. The Congress is a key way CAA amplifies this work — providing a forum to share learnings, discuss challenges and showcase projects making a difference.

This year’s Congress once again showcased innovation, collaboration and leadership across the sector. Workwear Group Uniforms was proud to sponsor the CAA Awards for Excellence for the second year running — recognising the people and projects driving meaningful change.

At the Gala Awards night, we presented the Excellence in Staff Development award to St John WA for their outstanding initiative: Deliver Sector-Recognised Family and Domestic Violence Informed Education to Emergency Responders Across All of WA.



The CAA Awards are designed to encourage innovation and enable services to share their work and learn from each other, with each category independently judged by a panel of respected leaders from across the globe.

Supporting VICSES Women in Rescue: Empowering Volunteers, Strengthening Communities

Workwear Group Uniforms (WWGU) is proud to support our Victorian State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteers through the supply of innovative and protective uniforms. In developing the uniform, we used in-depth wearer research and implemented changes based on feedback from real-life wearers.

This initiative brought together over 300 female and gender-diverse VICSES volunteers across seven locations in Victoria to enhance their rescue skills, build confidence, and work as a team in a supportive and empowering environment.  

Our partnership with VICSES spans over 4 years, during which we've proudly designed and manufactured high-quality, functional uniforms for their volunteers. As part of this ongoing collaboration, we identified the need for a more tailored uniform option for women and developed the "alternate fit," allowing female VICSES volunteers to wear uniforms specifically designed for them, rather than adapting men's styles. Workwear Group Uniforms is at the forefront of supporting the female workforce, dedicating resources to both onshore and offshore research to incorporate the latest technology and innovations, ensuring our uniforms cater to everyone. 

Held at multiple sites, including Bangholme, the event featured a series of hands-on training exercises, giving volunteers the opportunity to refine their expertise in critical emergency response areas, including: 

Each exercise was designed to equip VICSES volunteers with the practical skills needed to respond effectively to real-world emergencies. The dedication, passion, and enthusiasm on display throughout the day were truly inspiring. 

Beyond the training, the sense of camaraderie and encouragement was at the heart of this event. Hearing firsthand how our small contribution made a difference to the participants made us even more proud to be involved.

Innovating and developing uniforms to meet the needs of women, such as those in the army and emergency services.

Design & Development of Specific Fit Uniforms

In partnership with Victorian State Emergency Service (VICSES), Workwear Group Uniforms is set to unveil a female fit PPC (Personal Protective Clothing), the first of its kind for emergency service female volunteers.

Workwear Group were excited to be part of the Jetstar uniform launch that took place this week. Suitably set in in a Hangar, with a runway for the catwalk, Jetstar unveiled the uniform designed by Genevieve Smart of Ginger & Smart and manufactured by Workwear Group Uniforms.

In December 2019, VICSES began their Personal Protective Clothing (PPC) & Equipment Redesign Project. A key outcome of the project was to modernise and improve the uniform design for their volunteers and ensure that it was fit for the duties and activities they carry out. 

During project workshops and feedback collation, it became evident that priority needed to be given to a female-fit offering, before   release of updated Protective Clothing for VICSES members, planned for 2023. VICSES wanted all members to feel supported, safe, and enabled to represent the organisation. Across their volunteer workforce, they have 1,700 female volunteers, making up 33% of their overall volunteers. 

“We have seen a huge trend in organisations reviewing the female offering, in particular industries that are physically demanding,” WWGU’s Head of Merchandise, Vicky Wynn-Williams, said. 

“With an increase in female recruitment, Workwear Group Uniforms are leading the way to support the female workforce, with a commitment to extend research both onshore and offshore to find the latest technology and innovation to develop uniforms that cater to all shapes and sizes.” 

Our Lead Industrial Designer, Mark Godoy, led the team in designing a range of female-specific garments that incorporated the latest technology for best construction, fabrication, and functionality. 

The uniform was rolled out in March 2022, with more than 720 members ordering the new female-fit Personal Protective Clothing. 

“The change in fit is significant and has enabled female members to feel comfortable in clothing that is designed with their shape in mind,” said Lynette Connor, VICSES Manager of Assets. 

This project was expedited to meet wearer demands while still maintaining functionality and quality. Workwear Group Uniforms was chosen as the preferred supplier for VICSES due to our high-quality product offering for female-fit designs and our ability to meet production capacity and timeframes. 

AFAC, the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council, hosted their annual conference in Brisbane in August 2023 and Workwear Group Uniforms (WWGU) was proud to be a part of it.

 The conference is an important event where we connect with existing and prospective customers and showcase a range of garments. 

We displayed garments designed for Duty Wear, Structural and Wildlands which meet all regulatory compliance requirements. 

“The best thing about Workwear Group Uniforms is the culture of innovation and the culture of care for our people and care for our environment,” said Jamil Ganondvala, Workwear Group (WWG) Senior Textile Technologist. “This care reflects onto our products.” 

Our garments are designed around the wearer with an emphasis on comfort, performance, wearability, and breathability while providing full range of movement to allow for all activities. 

This event provided the opportunity for our team members to get direct feedback from customers. We heard about what wearers are liking in their uniforms, and any challenges that we can potentially solve. Visitors to our stand enjoyed a complimentary pair of our high-quality socks, something that we received positive feedback on at AFAC 2022.  

We’re looking forward to more opportunities to showcase our garments and collaborate with customers at AFAC 2024 in Sydney. 

Workwear Group Uniforms is responsible for providing apparel and footwear for paramedics, volunteer ambulance officers, call centre operators (triple zero calls), support staff and doctors that are a part of the MedSTAR Emergency Medical Retrieval team.

VICSES wanted all members to feel supported, safe and enabled to represent the organisation. Across their volunteer workforce, they proudly have 1,500 female volunteers (33 per cent). It was clear during the feedback sessions that the female members need to have PPC that is functional and designed for the female shape.
